Understanding Harm Reduction Approaches to Address Intimate Partner Violence, Human Trafficking, Exploitation and Homelessness in Health Centers.

Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

Health Partners on IPV + Exploitation and National Health Care for the Homeless Council are co-hosting a webinar on the intersection of intimate partner violence (IPV), human trafficking (HT), exploitation (E) and homelessness. The webinar will explore ways health center staff can apply a harm reduction approach when providing care for patients who have experienced IPV/HT/E.

Through case studies and presenters sharing their lived expertise, this webinar will explore and expand the definition and applications of harm reduction, expose the unintentional consequences of not applying this approach, and provide a broader analysis of harm reduction in relation to trauma-informed care.

Presenters will also share the evidence-based CUES intervention for addressing and preventing IPV/HT/E in health centers and reducing harm. Participants can join the presenters for an in-depth discussion for the last 25 minutes of the webinar, following the 60-minute presentation.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this webinar, participants will better be able to:

  1. Strengthen their understanding of the intersection between IPV/HT/E and its impact on housing and homelessness.
  2. Define the tenets of a harm reduction approach.
  3. Identify three strategies for applying a harm reduction approach for patients affected by IPV/HT/E.
  4. List two resources to support the implementation of the evidence-based CUES intervention.
