The Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project, (YHDP), is a two-year renewable demonstration grant awarded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to select communities nation-wide. Broadly, YHDP funds are used to specifically support youth and young adults through the age of 24. The specifics of what will be funded will be developed by the Youth Action Board (YAB) guided by adult advocates, education partners, and service providers with support from technical assistance provided by HUD and the US Department of Education. This will result in our Coordinated Community Plan (CCP) which is a cross-system effort outlining how Sacramento will prevent and end youth homelessness.
How Can Partners Help:
Sacramento’s Coordinated Community Plan (CCP) to prevent and end youth homelessness is the result of more than six months of dedicated effort from our Youth Action Board (YAB) and Community Stakeholders. Their unwavering commitment and collaboration have led to the creation of this comprehensive plan, which will serve as our beacon of guidance in the years ahead.
The CCP serves a vital purpose in keeping our community on track and attuned to the urgent needs of unhoused youth and young adults. It is designed to address their most critical needs effectively and efficiently. As a living document, the CCP remains adaptable and flexible, capable of being updated and refined as the circumstances and demands of our community evolve.
Together, with the CCP as our foundation, we can forge a brighter future, where every youth and young adult in Sacramento has access to safe and stable housing, comprehensive support services, and the opportunities they need to not just survive, but thrive.

Eligible Projects for YHDP Funding:
Process:
From now until April our community will engage in a process to develop gaps and needs culminating in the CCP. Though this is currently a fluid plan, this is what we expect for structure and time commitment.
YAB: There will be weekly meetings of the YAB to also identify gaps, needs, and dream. Any youth or young adult is welcome to join the YAB to have a voice in this process. HUD is clear that the final decisions about the program types that will be included in the CCP and funded with YHDP will be guided and determined by the YAB.
Planning Team: There will be a twice-monthly convening of all partners who have a stake in housing and/or working with homeless youth and young adults. The purpose of the stakeholder’s meeting is to identify gaps, needs, and to dream a little bit about what we could do with this funding. Stakeholders will be asked to share their data about the numbers and demographics of the youth they serve, if this information is available.
Core Adult Team: Our community will identify a small core team that will set agendas and send invitations to partners. Meet once a week.
