Meet the Staff: Ashley Wyant, HMIS Customer Support Specialist

The Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) is a local information technology system that is used by homeless service providers to collect confidential client-level data including demographics, history of homelessness and services accessed, and service needs.

As the lead agency that administers the HMIS, we are building a team that values a shared focus on monitoring and evaluating the performance of the homelessness system overall and individual projects. Our HMIS department and the data they collect and analyze can help shape new initiatives and inform changes to existing programs working to end homelessness. We met with Ashley Wyant to learn about her experience and role as HMIS Customer Support Specialist.

What will you be doing at SSF?

In my role at SSF, I will be supporting the operations of the HMIS by providing daily support to internal and external system users. Additionally, I will be assisting the HMIS team using my technical and analytical capabilities to offer administrative support related to HMIS access. I am looking forward to working on data quality and database cleansing projects to ensure compliance with US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations governing HMIS.

What motivated you to join SSF?

I recently graduated with my Bachelor’s focusing on Business Management through the lens of servant leadership and social entrepreneurship. During my college career and internships, I committed to impacting the business field through intentional marketing, data integrity, and transparent operational processes. I believe this opportunity will allow me to contribute to the work needed from institutions and technology to reduce and ultimately end homelessness.

What do you wish people knew about homelessness?

I wish people knew that anyone can be at risk of homelessness. 7 in 10 Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Housing is a human right that all people should have equitable access to.

What are you excited to do in your new role?

I am excited to work in homeless services as it is a crisis in our region. Making a contribution through data driven best practices and supporting our partner agencies in HMIS operations is showing to be a fulfilling career choice.

We look forward to seeing the contributions that Ashley will bring to the HMIS team, SSF, and more importantly to our Sacramento community. Make sure to join our HMIS office hours every Wednesday, as well as access additional resources and support.
