Read our semi-annual report for highlights from Sacramento’s front door to homelessness and housing services: the Coordinated Access System (CAS). Each month, the CAS helps connect thousands of residents experiencing or at risk of homelessness with crucial community resources. An example of one of these connections is shared below.
"This month, I had the opportunity to assist a client with requesting financial assistance to pay off her first month’s rent and security deposit. The client is a 63-year-old woman who had spent a long time experiencing homelessness. She did not have her own place or residence and had been trying to find something for herself for a long time. Finally, the client was accepted into a place of residence but needed to pay the security deposit and first month’s rent upfront. The client, her case worker, and I started to collect all the necessary documents for the application as quickly as possible. Once we received everything, I submitted the application. It was particularly tense because the client’s housing management had given us a clear deadline by which they would wait. Soon enough, I received an answer, and the client was approved! The client was very grateful when she heard the news. I am glad we managed to meet the deadline and that the client finally has a place she can call home."

The report reveals that the Coordinated Access System is on track to double the number of caller connections—including connections such as that shared above—year over year. Additionally, shelter utilization for individual and transitional-age youth (TAY) shelters is on track to meet our goal of 93% this year. However, shelter demand continues to exceed the system’s capacity, leading to long wait times.
