CAS Explanations: “Preventions from Homelessness”

Defining the terminology used by Sacramento’s Coordinated Access System (CAS). Learn more about CAS here

“Preventions from homelessness” tells us how many times the case managers have prevented at-risk households (individuals or families) from becoming homeless after contacting the Sacramento 2-1-1 (#8) Housing Crisis Line. Strategies include providing eviction prevention assistance, offering dispute resolution services, or facilitating access to emergency financial support through the Problem-Solving Access Point (PSAP) Program. Prevention metrics highlight the proactive steps our community takes through the 2-1-1 (#8) system to help people manage crises before they ever experience homelessness. This, in turn, reduces the impact on the person at risk and reduces the long-term cost to the homelessness response system.
