Sacramento Steps Forward Names New Chief Executive Officer

SACRAMENTO (Jan. 2, 2019) – Sacramento Steps Forward (SSF) announced today that Lisa Bates, who is currently the Deputy Director for Financial Assistance at the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), has been named the non-profit’s next Chief Executive Officer.

 

Bates joins SSF with more than 25 years of experience in housing and community development. Prior to joining HCD, she served the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) for 21 years.  While at SHRA, she was the agency’s Deputy Executive Director from 2007-2012 and Community Development Director from 2001 to 2007. She was responsible for leading key external and cross-agency collaborative initiatives, and helped balance the needs of communities with in local and private funding.

 

Bates replaces Anne Moore, who has been serving in an interim capacity since former CEO Ryan Loofbourrow left to join Sutter Health.

 

“Lisa has extensive experience at both the state and local level and is perfectly positioned to guide our agency into the future,” said SSF Board Chair Matthew Keasling. “We, in collaboration with all of our government, non-profit and corporate partners, aim to make Sacramento a national model for addressing the needs of our homeless population, and Lisa has the expertise to make that goal a reality.”

 

While at HCD, Bates led housing and homelessness policy initiatives and oversaw design and implementation of new affordable housing programs serving veterans and persons and families experiencing homelessness.

 

“Sacramento has stepped up to face the crisis of homelessness and I’m excited to join the local effort again,” said Bates. “Together, we can end homelessness as we know it.”

 

She holds a bachelor degree in international relations from U.C. Davis.

 

Her first day will be February 6.
