Breaking Barriers

Breaking Barriers is a volunteer driven non-profit organization that works within our local communities and in conjunction with other local service organizations to provide supportive services to people who are HIV-positive. Volunteers perform a number of important tasks.

Cycles 4 Hope is operated and supported by volunteers. We are always looking for people with a passion to serve and a love for bicycles. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with the following:

  • Bike assembly and repairs

  • Donation collection & operations
  • Coordinating with local charities for events and bicycle delivery

The Faith and Homeless Families Initiative provides temporary housing assistance, financial planning and education provided by mentor teams, and other supportive services to families through a partnership between faith congregations and service providers.

HomeAid Sacramento

HomeAid Sacramento is a nonprofit that builds affordable, safe housing for homeless individuals. They have two volunteer options available. First, they are in need of professional volunteers who could offer their skills in areas like construction, licensing, and others related to housing. Secondly, other volunteers can sign up for their November 6th: Painting a Better Tomorrow event.

Loaves & Fishes

Every Thursday at 10:00 am, the Volunteer Coordinator gives an informational talk and a tour of all the Loaves & Fishes programs. This Volunteer Orientation is open to all who come. This same tour is available on the first Saturday of each month by appointment only and begins at 9:00 am.

River City Food Bank

River City Food Bank is the only Sacramento-area food bank open every weekday to anyone experiencing hunger from anywhere in Sacramento County. RCFB offers nutritionally-balanced 3-day emergency food as well as shelter assistance. Interested in volunteering? Volunteer needs include:

  • A canned food drive coordinator
  • Box returner (to Senior Gleaners and FoodLink)
  • Volunteer for in-take desk (Tuesday)
  • Volunteer who can substitute for vacationing regular volunteers

Sacramento Area Emergency Housing

Interested volunteers are welcome to fill out our online volunteer application, but there will be a delay of approximately one month before you will be able to begin volunteering.

Salvation Army

Volunteers are needed to teach Life Skills Classes (i.e. budgeting, writing resumes, parenting, etc) at their Transitional Housing Shelter – Center of Hope. Days and times vary. Please call (916) 442-0331 for more information.

The Blanket Foundation

The Blanket Foundation collects blankets and sleeping bags to distribute to people who are homeless. Volunteers are needed for various projects within the foundation.

WIND Youth Services

Volunteers can help in two different areas:

  • The WIND Center: seeking volunteers with teaching experience to assist in their school program, which teaches kids aging from 7th through 12th grade.
  • The WIND Youth Shelter: seeking volunteers to help in preparing lunch or dinner meals, for up to 20 kids.
