Dear Friend,

On any given night in Sacramento County, 2,358 of our neighbors are experiencing homelessness. Over the course of one year, it is estimated that over 3,961 Sacramento County residents experience homelessness. Through the creation of affordable housing, Housing First, Permanent Support Housing, the Homeless Prevention & Rapid Re-Housing program and many other initiatives, Sacramento partners are working together to end homelessness. In fact, chronic homelessness in our community decreased by 50% since 2007 and overall homelessness decreased by 15%, between 2009 and 2011. However, family homelessness in Sacramento has increased 11% since 2009, and more work needs to be done!

Sacramento Steps Forward is a new non-profit organization supported by the City and County of Sacramento and hundreds of community partners from the private sector. Sacramento Steps Forward seeks to end homelessness in our region by coordinating and integrating services and housing, building public/private collaborations to fund homeless programs and administer the homeless Continuum of Care, increasing public education and participation and developing a range of evidence-based, results-oriented programs that fit the needs of a diverse homeless population.

WE HAVE 5 GOALS:

Permanent Housing: Provide permanent housing for homeless individuals and families, moving people to housing as rapidly as they are ready.

Services: Provide a safety net a pathways to ensure that all homeless individuals and families transition to permanent housing.

Funding: Fully fund the permanent housing and services needed to end homelessness.

Advocacy: Build the community will—throughout the region—to fully support the permanent housing and services needed to end homelessness.

Accountability: Continuously evaluate and optimize the permanent housing and services needed to end homelessness.

Please join our team effort in achieving these goals and ending homelessness! Together we can improve the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors.

Sincerely,
Ben Burton, Executive Director
